“The Peace Light from Bethlehem experience 2015”
A ‘peace light’ lit from one of fifteen oil lamps that are said to have been burning at a grotto from the birthplace of Jesus for more than a thousand years will arrive in Ireland this month.

On the 11th of December, a candle will be lit in the Grotto of Christ’s Birth in the Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem. This flame will be taken by Israeli and Palestinian Scouts to Tel Aviv Airport where it goes to Austria. From Vienna, Scouts take the flame and transport across Europe and beyond.

We in Ireland hope to pick up the 'flame' in Holyhead, Wales, on Tuesday 15th and hold our national Service of Distribution in the Church of the Visitation in Fairview, Dublin on Thursday 17th. This means that the Limerick celebration this year will place in St. Paul’s Church on Friday 18th of December at about 8pm.

We welcome all Scouts, Girl guides and members of the community to join us in welcoming this symbol of peace to Limerick. You will then have an opportunity to take the flame back in to your community.

"We gladly receive the light as a sign of our willingness to be channels of peace, by our words and actions.."

The Mid-West Inter-Faith Network will be distributing lights in the vicinity of the Augustinian Church in Limerick on next Saturday 19th December. If you are in town we would be delighted if you would call to us and accept a light from us and light it later as a symbol of our desire for peace. If you are from outside Limerick, perhaps you would join us and pray specially for peace between 11 and 12 on Saturday.

We remember all those who are the victims of war and violence
