Next week we return to normal SS102fm show with an interview with participants at recent Youth2000 events.

Faithcast - Episode 23 - July 20th 2017

Faithcast is the weekly podcast from catholicnews.ie, the news source for the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference. Presented by Brenda Drumm, Faithcast is a mixture of interviews and news snippets from the Catholic Church in Ireland.

In episode 23 of Faithcast, Brenda speaks to Brian Hanley of the Irish Council for Prisoners Overseas about concerns over delays in the repatriation of Irish people in prison overseas. Brenda also hears from Sadie and Jason, two young people who share their reasons for signing up as volunteers for next year’s World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin.

The faith news this by the devastating hunger crisis in east Africa; Archbishop Eamon Martin’s wish for ‘a New Pentecost in Ireland’; the annual Reek Sunday pilgrimage; and, Bishop Éamonn Walsh’s letter to The Irish Times newspaper in which he expresses his concern about alcohol’s grip on Irish society.

Gospel - Matthew 13:44-52

Jesus said to his disciples:
"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchantsearching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price,he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashoreand sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteousand throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."Do you understand all these things?" They answered, "Yes." And he replied,"Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heavenis like the head of a householdwho brings from his storeroom both the new and the old."
